Emma's always been an activist, but her activism
turned into just self-righteous do-gooding. After her long relationship with Sean went bad, she kind of got revenge crazy.
Later she started a crusade against Rick, which turned into pity for him, which he mistook for love. When Rick came to school
with a gun seeking his own revenge, he very nearly shot Emma. Sean grabbed the gun, and likely saved her life. Emma's still
trying to come to grips with the whole thing. |

When cute little Manny decided to become
hot hot hot Manny, her life kind of fell apart for a while. First, she decided she was every little bit of that and toyed
with all the guys. Then she seduced Craig when she knew he was dating Ashley. He cheated on Manny right back, and she ended
up pregnent (she hand an abortion)and with a broken heart and a rep, and almost lost her best friend Emma, too. So the playaness
has been toned down. Manny dated her old friend J.T. for a while, and now she's clearly got it for Spinner.

Bad girl Alex came on the scene as bad boy
Jay's girlfriend. She seems to hate everybody but herself, Jay, Sean, and the "Montreal crew." While Paige's meanness hides
a real, caring person underneath, Alex's meanness hides even more meanness. For every reasonably good thing she does (not
outing Marco to the whole school, being nice to Paige when they worked together at a movie theater) she does something reasonably
evil, like helping to publicly humiliate Rick, which precipitated his violent revenge.

Ellie's always seemed like a massively self-assured
punk who even helped both Ashley and Marco find themselves. Truth is she has a seriously tough home life, and she used to
cut herself when the stress got too bad. But she's getting help for that, and understanding herself helped her to bond with
Sean. They became a serious couple. "Serious" as in she moved in with him and used the word "love." Now that Sean's decided
to leave Degrassi to return to his parents, Ellie is heartbroken.

The Ashley saga is a long one: the ultra-popular
prep who alienated all her friends and became an ultra-unpopular goth who made up with her friends to become a kind-of-popular
rocker. Not to mention the on-again/off-again boyfriends along the way (first Jimmy, then Craig, who cheated on her hard and
was majorly off until he apologized to become just plain off, but lately has been on again, though it's not entirely clear
how on—Ash has joined his band on keyboards). Ash is friends with Paige and Ellie, and the shooting of Jimmy by Rick
nearly shattered her.

Paige and Ashley's longtime friend, Terri's
never been the most self-confident person. That's why she was so happy when she found Rick, someone who made her feel good
about herself. But Rick was abusive and hurt her, and Terri, against the advice of her friends, refused to cut him loose.
Pretty soon, Rick's anger boiled over, and Terri ended up in the hospital. When she recovered her health, she started over
at a new school.

Hazel's not just "Paige's friend" anymore.
They're a lot alike (though Hazel's still way more quiet and shy than Paige ever could be), but Hazel's come into her own
as one of the major Degrassi girls, enough so that she won over Jimmy. They've been together a while now, and when Hazel heard
the news that Jimmy had been shot by Rick, she cried real tears.

Paige used to be the kind of fashionista mean
girl who would manipulate her friends and brutalize her enemies. A lot of things happened to change that. She was sexually
assaulted. Her friend was put into the hospital by an abusive boyfriend. And through it all, her friends and ex-friends stood
by her side. Now, Paige can still vivisect you with three words if she wants, but she's less likely to do it (unless you're
the jerkhole who raped her, or Spinner, who thought that being her boyfriend meant treating her like barf). She's just as
stylish and just as popular, but she doesn't care as much if anyone notices. And if she finds you in trouble, she's more likely
to help you out than to take advantage of you. She's still Paige, but better.

Liberty's always had a
rep as the school nerd, and she kind of deserved it. Not because she's smart, but because she insisted on making known exactly
how smart she is. And she'd kind of bury you if she felt you getting in her way. That's over now. Liberty's more confident
about herself, and much more chill. So much so that she even convinced her longtime crush, J.T. to ask out his longtime crush,
Manny.
